Since its founding in 2010, the Gloucester Writers Center has hosted hundreds of events including readings, classes, lectures, films, writers-in-residence and community events.

“A working writers center in a working town,” the Writers Center is located in the home of Vincent Ferrini (1913-2007), the first poet laureate of Gloucester.  Ferrini wrote poetry in his home and framing studio for fifty years. The project of opening the house as a living memorial after his death began with Ferrini’s nephew Henry Ferrini, long-time friend Annie Thomas, friend and minister Paul Sawyer, and New York writer André Spears.  The GWC became incorporated prior to Sawyer’s death in 2010 and received 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit.

The GWC’s programs include many Literary Series, the annual Charles Olson Lecture, the Diggers lecture series, Writer-in-Residence Program, “Fish Tales” events, and Open Mic nights.
